Instrument Calibration: Key Points to Avoid Errors

This article highlights the most important aspects to keep in mind when configuring instrument calibrations in Proqio. These checks are intended to help prevent common calibration errors that can lead to inaccurate measurements or incorrect historical data.

1. Verify Calibration Values Against the Calibration Sheet

  • Ensure that all calibration values entered in Proqio exactly match those provided in the instrument’s calibration sheet.

  • Avoid modifying any values to any that are differ from those explicitly instructed in the the calibration documentation.

Even small discrepancies can result in significant measurement errors.

2. Link Calibration Fields to the Correct Raw Fields

  • Each calibration field must be linked to the correct raw field coming from the instrument.

  • Confirm that the selected raw field represents the intended sensor output (e.g. voltage, counts, frequency).

3. Verify the correct raw fields and calibration fields are selected in the formula.

  • Carefully review the calibration formula before saving.

  • Make sure that:

    • The correct raw fields are selected

    • The correct calibration fields are referenced

    • The formula logic follows the methodology defined by the instrument manufacturer

A mismatch in any of these elements can cause incorrect calculations.

4. Enter the Calibration Date Correctly

  • The calibration date determines from which point in time the new calibration values are applied.

  • Set the date based on:

    • The date from which the updated calibration should take effect

An incorrect calibration date may unintentionally modify historical data or leave recent data improperly calibrated.

5. Validate Data After Applying Calibration Changes

  • After saving calibration changes, we recommend that you:

    • Review recent and historical measurements

    • Compare values before and after the calibration date

    • Confirm that graphs, dashboards, and alerts behave as expected
