Step 2: Add your instruments

Effective monitoring in Proqio begins with properly setting up your instruments. This guide will walk you through the process of adding instruments to your monitoring dashboard, whether you're adding them individually or in bulk through CSV import.

Understanding Instruments in Proqio

Before adding instruments, it's helpful to understand what they represent in the system. Instruments in Proqio are the physical or virtual devices that collect and transmit data from your sites.

Each instrument has properties such as an ID, category, reading frequency, installation date, location and more.

Method 1: Adding Instruments Individually

For situations where you need to add just a few instruments, the individual method is straightforward:

  1. Navigate to the Monitoring section in the left sidebar
  2. Click the blue "Add Instrument" button in the top-right corner of the dashboard
  3. Complete the instrument setup form that appears with information such as:
    • Instrument ID
    • Original ID (a unique identifier for the instrument)
    • Category
    • Reading frequency (how many readings per day)
    • Installation date and time
    • Location
  4. Save your new instrument configuration and add additional configuration for calibration, thresholds, data reception or lines and textures.

INSTRU SET UP

This method is ideal when you're adding specialized instruments with unique configurations or when you're just getting started with a small number of monitoring instruments.

Method 2: Adding Instruments in bulk via CSV Import

For larger deployments or when setting up multiple instruments of similar types, the bulk import method saves considerable time:

Step 1: Download the Template

  1. Navigate to the Monitoring section
  2. Click the "Download Templates" button (located under "Upload CSV")
  3. Select the template that matches your categories.

The template is a CSV file with predefined columns that match Proqio's required and optional instrument parameters.

Step 2: Fill Out the Template

Open the template in a spreadsheet application (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.) and fill in:

Example of spreadsheet:

Be careful to maintain the correct format within Date Installed, which should follow the DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:ss format, and correct numerical values..

Step 3: Upload the Completed CSV

  1. Return to the Monitoring section.
  2. Click the "Upload CSV" on top-right corner.
  3. Select your completed template file.
  4. Confirm the upload when prompted.

Proqio will process your file and add all instruments defined in the CSV to your monitoring dashboard. The system will validate the data and may provide warnings or errors if any information is incomplete or incorrectly formatted.

Best Practices for Adding Instruments

  • Use consistent naming conventions for your Instrument IDs to make management easier
  • Group similar instruments by using consistent naming patterns (as seen in the Crackmeter-NN series in the example)
  • Verify your data before bulk uploading to avoid errors
  • Start with a small test batch when using the CSV method for the first time
  • Keep a backup of your instrument information outside of Proqio

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues when adding instruments:

  • Ensure all required fields are completed
  • Check that date formats match the expected format (DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS)
  • Verify that the instrument categories match those available in the system
  • For bulk uploads, ensure your CSV is properly formatted without extra columns or rows
